Dental Implants in Totowa, NJ
Serving Patients in Cedar Grove and Caldwell, NJ
Dental implants are the most natural, permanent replacement available for missing teeth. They are designed to eliminate gaps and fit comfortably in place, requiring no filing down of neighboring teeth as other tooth replacement methods sometimes do. Implant dentistry involves the surgical placement of a dental implant, which is carefully capped with a natural-looking, personalized crown. Jerry Strauss, DMD can perform implant dentistry procedures right here at Aesthetic Dental Care of New Jersey.

Am I a candidate for dental implants?
Patients who turn to Dr. Strauss for dental implants will need to have a consultation to see if they are candidates for implant dentistry. All candidates for dental implants must have healthy gums, sufficient bone in the jaw to accommodate the dental implants, and be in good oral health. Dr. Strauss will also analyze your dental and medical history, perform x-rays, and conduct a CT scan. A CT scan lets Dr. Strauss determine your jaw shape and your bone density.
Once you are determined to be a candidate, Dr. Strauss will move on to discuss the types of dental implants available for implant dentistry. There are several types of dental implants, including root-form implants, sub-periosteal implants, plate-form implants, ramus-frame implants, and transosseous implants. Dr. Strauss will help you decide which implant is best suited for you.
How is the procedure performed?
During the actual implant surgery, a strong titanium post will be placed under the gum in the area of the missing tooth. The post is designed to anchor itself to the jawbone, becoming a permanent part of your mouth. It takes a few months for the implant to fully attach, so Dr. Strauss can place a temporary crown on the implant during this period. Once the implant has firmly attached to the bone, much like a natural tooth root, Dr. Strauss will affix a permanent, custom-designed dental crown to the top of the post. After a final polish, the treatment is complete.
Will the results look natural?
The dental implant is placed utilizing sophisticated technology and very precise care in order to achieve a comfortable, natural fit. The customized dental crown that is placed on the implant is also designed to provide the most natural look and feel possible. The idea of dental implant treatment is to replace your missing tooth so successfully that you may not be able to distinguish it from your original teeth!
