One-Visit Dental Crowns with CEREC®
Traditional dental crowns require two or more appointments to design and fit the restorations; they are sent to an off-site dental laboratory for construction.
Modern CEREC crowns can be designed, crafted and delivered in a single visit. Dr. Strauss takes impressions of the affected tooth or teeth, feeds the information into the CEREC computer program, and creates a virtual design of the crown. Once we have finalized the design, it is sent to the CEREC milling machine and constructed from a block of porcelain. Dr. Strauss then tries the crown on in the patient’s mouth and makes any last-minute adjustments as needed. The entire process takes a single appointment.
Dental bridges are restorations used to fill in gaps left by missing teeth. A traditional bridge is constructed from three crowns bonded together; the two crowns on either end are cemented onto the teeth surrounding the gap, and the crown in the middle rests in the gap. Modern crowns are crafted from strong, durable materials that mimic natural tooth enamel.
Fillings are placed on teeth damaged by decay to restore them to optimal shape and function. They are bonded directly to the tooth to “fill” the space left after the decayed tooth structure is removed. Dr. Strauss can use a variety of materials for fillings, including tooth-colored materials. The type of material used depends on the extent of the tooth decay and the location in the mouth that needs the filling.
Inlays & Onlays
Inlays and onlays are small pieces of porcelain that restore teeth with too much decay for a filling. Inlays are placed within the “cusps” (i.e., top edges) of a tooth, and onlays extend over one or more cusps.
A dental implant replaces an entire tooth from root to crown. The replacement tooth has three parts: a titanium post or screw that is surgically placed in the jawbone, an artificial tooth (usually a crown) that rests on top of the gumline, and a connector piece called an abutment that connects the two. Because implants are anchored in the jawbone, they are very stable and can last a lifetime.
