Commonly Asked Questions about Dental Implants
Dental implants are a stable, lasting way to replace one or more missing teeth. Dr. Jerry Strauss of Aesthetic Dental Care of New Jersey recommends implants to qualified candidates that want to smile with confidence again. Here, he answers some of the most commonly asked questions about implants.
Why are dental implants so popular?
Dental implants are a great way to reclaim the look, feel and function of natural, healthy teeth. Unlike other tooth replacements, implants are stable and secure because they are placed in the jawbone. They do not need to be removed or soaked like dentures; in fact, they require no special maintenance at all! And they enable you to enjoy all of your favorite foods without worrying that they will come loose or get damaged.
Are dental implants beneficial for my oral health?
Dental implants are anchored by posts or screws placed in the jawbone beneath the missing tooth. Chewing on the post helps to keep the jawbone stimulated so it does not deteriorate from lack of use. Filling the gap left by a missing tooth also prevents the surrounding teeth from shifting around in the mouth and throwing off a balanced bite.
Does it hurt to get a dental implant?
The procedures to place and restore the implant should not be painful. Your mouth will be numbed so you do not feel any pain during treatment. After the procedures, you may have some soreness and mild discomfort, and can take over-the-counter pain medication for relief.
Can I replace all of my teeth with dental implants?
If you are missing all of your teeth, you can replace them with implant-supported dentures. The denture appliances are anchored to several implant posts placed throughout the upper and lower jaw.
How much do dental implants cost?
The cost of dental implants varies based on factors such as the number of implants placed, the restorations placed on top of the implant posts and whether any adjunct procedures (e.g., bone grafting) are needed.
The best way to get information about implant cost is to meet with Dr. Strauss for an in-person consultation. After examining your mouth and discussing your needs, our office can provide an estimate of expected costs.
How long do dental implants last?
Dental implants are built to last for years. With the proper care and maintenance, your dental implants could last the rest of your life.
